John McCain Road to Victory Rally

I took the kids to the John McCain "Road to Victory Rally" at the Grand Junction Airport this morning. Philip dropped us off at the airport and we walked over to the hanger where the rally was taking place. We had to go through metal detectors and the volunteers that were there were really nice. They let me keep the water bottles and all of the stuff I brought to keep the kids happy for 3 hours while we waited for John McCain to come. They also let me sit in the vip section which was the bleachers behind where John McCain was speaking. So we might be on the news. While we were waiting for John McCain to get there, we listened to some singers. I also noticed two snipers walking across the roof of the building across from the hanger, and when we were leaving we saw others leaving there posts on other roofs. Philip was finally able to get off work about an hour before McCain got there. When McCains' airplane arrived everybody started yelling, his plane pulled up right next to the hanger we were in. He came with his wife, his 96 year old mother who stood the whole time he was talking, and Senator Joe Lieberman. When he was done speaking, he walked around and shook hands. While he was shaking hands there were about 5 secret service agents that stood all around him. After the rally ,we watched McCain's airplane take off, Alyssa especially liked that. Ever since the airshow she gets very excited whenever she sees an airplane.
The kids were excited to go to the rally, especially Nathan. He has learned a little bit about voting in school and while we were walking to the rally he said, "I can't believe we get to see John McCain." Where we were sitting, we were also able to meet a lot of the other republican candidates that are running for offices in Colorado. Nathan even had Bob Schaffer (he is running for US Senate) sign his McCain/Palin sign.

The guy that took our picture apparantly didn't see Emma.

If you look close you can see John McCain and his wife waving from their airplane.

My picture isn't that great because of the light behind him. But here is John McCain.

WOW! What a great learning opportunity. Hope everyone is coping with the outcome of the election. It took me a while to find Emma in the family picture. (top of her head at least) The guy that took your picture got a great shot of the sky though.

Nathan was disappointed that McCain didn't win.

Josie was disappointed McCain didn't win too! However, her disappointment was eased by the Prop.8 victory.
